Nicole Pratt's Biography

Australia's Number 1 Ranked Female Tennis Player

"My only regret in tennis is not applying for a US athletic scholarship.  This would have given my tennis game time to mature while working towards gaining a degree.  A lot of my friends attended college before turning professional; they include Lisa Raymond, Erika DeLone, and Kim Po-Messerli.  I would recommend this to any tennis player or athlete who wishes to pursue their dreams of a professional career while gaining an education". - Nicole Pratt

Career/personal: Nicole became Australia's No.1 ranked player in January 2001 and for the remainder of the year was never far behind leading position.  She accounted for some notable scalps, namely 17th seed Meghann Shaughnessy at Miami, No.3 Magui Serna at Birmingham and No.9 Anna Kournikova at San Diego.  In October, she became the first Australian woman to reach a final (at Shanghai) since Rachel McQuillan in 1994 at Hobart, falling to Monica Seles at the last post.  A former Australian Open Junior Champion (1991), Pratt won all four of singles and doubles matches in 1999 to help Australia qualify for the Fed Cup World Group in 2000 and in 2001, she was 4-0 in singles going into the Fed Cup World Group final in Madrid.  The daughter of cane farmers George and Dorothy Pratt, Nicole was taught how to play by her father, a top junior in his own right.  When she goes home, the proud Queenslander heads directly to the nearby Whitsunday Islands for some fishing and water skiing.
